Mediation is a process where a trained neutral individual (third party) assists parties in discussing issues confidentially and communicate with each other in order to reach an agreement and develop a mutually satisfactory resolution.
This forward-looking process is non-adversarial and encourages the participants to focus on their current and future needs and interests, rather than focusing on fault and blame for actions from the past. Parties who choose the mediation process control the outcome of their dispute and avoid litigation. A trained mediator does not control the decision-making process, that power lies with the parties involved.
